#NationalBestFriendDay: An Appreciation Post For My Favourite Humans.

A few years ago, one of my very best friends was in a pretty bad car crash whilst driving to my house late at night from work. Although absolutely horrific, thankfully she is here to tell the tale, and got away with a badly broken leg and lots of cuts and bruises. Another friend and I vowed that day to tell each other more often that we loved them, because, in all honesty, up until that moment I have to admit I had taken the fact that they would always be there for granted. But truth be told, unless I’ve had a few too many, I still don’t tell them how much I love and appreciate them enough. So, here goes probably my soppiest post to date: this one is for you, my best friends.

So thankyou. Thankyou for helping me grow into the person I am today.

Thankyou for being there for me, whether we were living together or miles and miles apart.

Thankyou for always knowing what to say and do, through horrific break ups, shitty mistakes, dissertation meltdowns and bad mental health days.

Thankyou always listening when it felt like no one else was.

Thankyou for being the very, very, very rare type of people who actually want to hear about your day, what you’ve been up to, the ups, the downs, the good, the bad, they ugly on your life.

Thankyou for always listening with zero judgement, an open heart and a brew/glass/bottle or two of wine and an inspirational quote of the day.

Thankyou for tagging me in multiple memes throughout the week, so even if we don’t speak, I know you’re still alive.

Thankyou for forgiving me when I have made vodka fuelled mistakes and holding my hand through the most emotional hangovers.

And finally thankyou for being the funniest, kindest, warmest, most compassionate people I have ever come across – there’s not many people like you in the world, and I’m lucky to have found you.

So whether we’re brewing up, watching trashy TV, getting white girl wasted, going through the aftermath of caffeine poisoning (lol), struggling through sweaty gym sessions, quoting Bridesmids or travelling the world together, I feel safe in the assurance that I have a group of people who I can always turn to and I know that I’ll be happy, because in your presence it’s impossible not to be. It’s no secret that I’ve struggled a lot in the past and even though I never allowed myself to talk about it openly, you, unknowingly, did so, so much for me. I’m not sure where or who I’d be today without you, but I know that even on my darkest days you always made things that much brighter.

I couldn’t have chosen a better group of humans to share my life with.

I love you,
